For his turn as a homophobic AIDS patient Ron Woodroof, Matthew – who is famous for his beefcake physique – lost 38 pounds of muscle by subsisting on just “fish and a cup of vegetables” for four months. Jared, too, radically altered his appearance to play Rayon, an HIV-positive transgender woman. Not only did he get down to 114 pounds, but he also waxed his entire body – including his eyebrows!
For their efforts, Matthew and Jared took home the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

To portray the unglamorous and weather-worn character, the gorgeous star underwent an incredible make-under that left her unrecognizable, gaining 30 pounds and wearing prosthetic dentures, contact lenses and makeup.
