Drew Barrymore turns 40: Her life in the spotlight

Drew Barrymore’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. From child star to wild adolescent – and, currently, glamorous film actress and mother of two – the blond beauty couldn't be more thrilled about entering this new stage in her life as she celebrates her milestone 40th birthday on Feb. 22.

The road to happiness hasn't always been easy for the once-troubled actress. Following her big-screen breakout role in godfather Stephen Spielberg’s E.T., the young starlet went through a difficult transitional period as a teenager, dabbling in drugs and entering rehab at age 14.

Determined to turn her life around, Drew founded her own production company, Flower Films, at age 20. She went on to star in blockbuster movies like The Wedding Singer, Never Been Kissed and the Charlie’s Angels franchise.

Through it all, the actress has emerged ambitious and strong. Now happily married to husband Will Kopelman, with whom she welcomed a second daughter, Frankie, last April (joining big sister Olive), Drew says she’s “overjoyed” about this new stage in her life.

“Will is just thrilled – we both are,” said the actress, “I’m feeling very blessed.”

The 40-year-old star says that she doesn’t mind cutting back on acting, and has chosen to focus on her cruelty-free Flower Beauty makeup collection instead, which lets her work regular hours.

"Ultimately, being with people you love needs to be your highest prioirty because it's the most fulfilling," Drew told Hello! Canada in an exclusive interview. "And I'm very lucky and grateful to say I feel fulfilled."

Although she has grown more selective with her film roles, the doting mom hasn't given up on acting altogether. Drew will be returning to the big screen in the upcoming drama Miss You Already alongside Toni Collette.
