‘Transparent’ star Jeffrey Tambor wishes Bruce Jenner 'an authentic life'

Transparent actor Jeffrey Tambor has wished Bruce Jenner “happiness and an authentic life” ahead of the former Olympian’s highly anticipated interview with Diane Saywer, in which it is thought that Bruce will address the speculation surrounding his reported transition from male to female.

"I think Jenner has a right to do what Jenner wants to do, and the way Jenner wants to do it," the actor said while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter this week. Jeffrey, 70, has received major accolades for his portrayal of transgender character Maura on the groundbreaking series, which is available for streaming via shomi.

“I don’t think we should say, 'Oh, you have to come out this way, or you have to come out this way,’” he added. “It's not fair. I wish Jenner happiness and an authentic life. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — that’s in the Constitution!”

It's not the first time that Jeffery has spoken out on behalf of the transgendered community. When he accepted his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Comedy earlier this year, he dedicated his performance to transgendered people everywhere, declaring, “This is big. This is much bigger than me.”

The star has likewise been well-received by the transgendered community for his realistic and moving portrayal of Mort's journey to become Maura, with the actor telling Hello! Canada that the reaction has been the "best part" about being on the show.

"People come up to me and tell me their deepest familial secrets," he says. "I guess the public trusts me now."

Jeffrey’s impassioned defence of Bruce comes just weeks ahead of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star’s interview, which is scheduled to air Friday, April 29 at 9 pm on Entertainment Tonight. It is expected to be the first time that Bruce, 65, will address reports that he is making the transition from male to female.

A new promotional clip for the program sees Bruce say, "My whole life has been getting ready for this," while a previous trailer already sparked excitement amongst Bruce's fans earlier this month. The video included a voiceover confirming that Bruce's exclusive talk with journalist and former news anchor Diane will cover "the journey, the decisions, the future."
