Ryan Reynolds visited by Vancouver mayor on ‘Deadpool’ set

Ryan Reynolds took a well-deserved break from shooting his upcoming film, Deadpool, in Vancouver this week to meet with a few local fans – including the city’s mayor, Gregor Robertson.

The 38-year-old actor, who was born and raised in the city on Canada's western coast, took to Twitter to express his excitement after the encounter.

It's not every day you get to ask the Mayor about building a gigantic waterslide from Whistler to Vancouver,” the actor wrote.

Funnyman Ryan is known for his comedic talent on-screen as well as his hilarious social media presence. Lately, he's been on a bit of a Twitter hot streak.

That same night, his wife, Blake Lively, attended the premiere of Age of Adanaline, after which Lionsgate complimented how good she and costar Michiel Huisman looked together on the red carpet.

Ryan replied with a tweet of mock-jealousy shortly afterwards, writing, “UH… I can hear you!”

But the laughs didn't end there. In the film, the Canadian heartthrob plays former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson, who, after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, takes on the alter-ego Deadpool.

Last month, Ryan posted a picture of himself in his full Deadpool costume, lying on a bear-skin rug in front of a fire in a spoof image of Burt Reynolds' infamous naked centrefold for Cosmopolitan in the 1970s.

Underneath the photo, Ryan wrote: "With great power, comes great irresponsibility. #deadpool #officialsuit @deadpoolmovie."

In addition to working on the superhero film and busting guts via social media, Ryan recently welcomed his first child with 27-year-old actress Blake, and he's been on cloud nine ever since. It seems that nothing – not even being struck by a paparazzo in a scary hit-and-run incident last week – can get the actor down.

Ryan has been embracing fatherhood following baby James's arrival in December. Ryan and Blake have not yet introduced their baby girl, but Ryan did confirm her name during an interview on the Today show, after months of speculation."It's Butternut Summer Squash," joked the star. "No, it's out there. It's James. Everyone knows."

Ryan is clearly a doting dad - he described fatherhood as "the best" during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and revealed he had never expected to feel so protective over his daughter.

"I used to say to [Blake], 'I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.' I would say that to my wife," he told the chat show host. "And the second I looked into that baby’s eyes, I knew in that exact moment that if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby!"
