Helen Mirren's turn as the Queen garners a Tony Award

Helen Mirren can add Tony Award winner to her resume after taking home the coveted Best Actress statue at Sunday night’s (June 7) festivities at Radio City Music Hall. No stranger to awards for her film work, the actress has now had her stage prowess recognized too.

The 69-year-old British star won the prize for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience – and was presented with her new trophy by dashing actor Bradley Cooper.

Helen was the epitome of elegance as she took to the stage in a sensational figure-hugging white gown with decorative detailing and flowing sheer sleeves.

She finished her dazzling look with her blonde hair cropped to perfection in a chic style, a pair of glitzy earrings, and a pop of colour with pink lipstick.

This isn’t the first trophy that the actress has received for her role as the Queen in the Broadway version of the West End play, in which she previously appeared in 2013 – she previously won the Olivier Award for the same role back in April 2013.

She also won several awards for portraying the monarch in 2006 movie The Queen, including an Academy Award and a BAFTA.

As well as winning prizes, the star is also clearly winning in love. She shared a tender kiss on the red carpet with her husband of almost 20 years, Taylor Hackford.

Fellow British talents that stepped out for the New York awards included actress Carey Mulligan, who dazzled in a burgundy red dress, and fellow Best Actress nominee Ruth Wilson, who donned a bright pink gown with a full skirt.

Unfortunately for the talented actresses, Helen scooped the big prize of the night, meaning Carey missed out on a trophy for her role in play Skylight and Ruth for her leading role in Constellations.
