Take Five with...Jon Montgomery: My favourite stops on The Amazing Race Canada

As host of The Amazing Race Canada (season three premieres July 8, CTV), Jon Montgomery has earned plenty of stamps on his passport. While he won’t reveal where this latest season will take him, we asked the Olympic gold medalist to take us on a journey to the five most memorable places he’s gone with the Amazing Race.

FAN FAVOURITE
At the very beginning I get to learn about the racers, the route, and the challenges that lay ahead. Then it gets real fast when we drop the hammer, and send the racers around the world in 30 days. Viewers can expect us to continue our tradition of being a fast-paced, family-friendly competition show, which celebrates some of the best Canadian landscapes from coast to coast to coast. I'd been to Regina a lot in the past, but I'd never been to the RCMP Academy’s “Depot” Division or got to play on the field of my beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. That was a great leg of the first season’s race for me personally.

AN UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE
Iqaluit, Nunavut, really took my breath away. It was so different than what I expected. I thought it would be flat and desolate, but I was wrong. I'd love to get back and experience some of their brief summer, and see more of the diverse flora and fauna that exists in the North. I experienced a very small part of the culture there, but I saw enough to know I'd like to experience more for sure.

COUPLES’ RETREAT
If I were to ever participate in the Amazing Race and needed a partner, I’d pick my wife, Darla, of course! We would probably get lost and fight about it. But we'd make up, laugh at ourselves and then U-Turn someone! Tofino has always been a magical place for my wife and I. After our skeleton season was over in 2007, we took our first vacation together as a couple, to Tofino with friends. Now that we call Vancouver Island home, we get back more frequently and always marvel at the area’s natural beauty. We camp at a place called Crystal Cove, which helps us recharge our batteries. When you want to step it up a notch, try the Long Beach Lodge Resort or the Wickaninnish Inn. The Wick has a great spa, and if crashing waves and storm-watching are your thing, then it'll be your go-to in the winter.

ONE TO WATCH
The most exciting aspect about returning to the show every year is all of the unknowns that exist for me. There was a location this season that I knew nothing about prior to filming there. It's a hidden gem for sure! Whitehorse was brilliant as well. We've been there twice with the show and I hope we can go back again.

RETURN TICKET
I'm looking forward to getting back to anywhere on the East Coast of Canada. I live in the West and spend a lot of time there, so I'm spoiled with all that it has to offer. Now I'd like to experience more of the places I've only just scratched the surface of.
