As an anxious Shawn (and viewers at home!) waited to find out if he had won her heart, Kaitlyn had the difficult task of breaking things off with Nick Viall. “My heart belongs with someone else,” she admitted, leaving the 34-year-old heartbroken. Now free to express her true feelings, the overwhelmed bachelorette was finally able to tell Shawn that he was ‘the one.’ “I am completely yours and I will always be faithful to you and I have been waiting so long to tell you how I feel because I love you with all of my heart.”

The 29-year-old’s road to her happily ever after was far from easy. After falling in love with Chris Soules on season 19 of The Bachelor, a crushed Kaitlyn left the show in tears after he revealed that he didn’t see a future with her. The fan favourite was an easy choice for the show’s next bachelorette, and after battling it out with former contestant Britt Nilsson for the job, she went on to develop a number of serious connections with a variety of men. Ultimately, her intuition was spot on as the man she fell in love with was the very man she gave the coveted first impression rose to in the premiere episode.

The lovebirds made their first official appearance as a couple on After the Final Rose, and later did the talk show rounds, even making a $1000 wager with Jimmy Kimmel that their relationship will stand the test of time. “I didn’t think I could be this happy,” Kaitlyn told People magazine, a sentiment that she shares with her new fiancé, “She just makes me feel different, something that I’ve never felt before. It’s what I’ve been looking for.”

The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison has seen his fair share of engagements and breakups over the course of the show’s 30 seasons, but he has high hopes for Kaitlyn and Shawn, telling US Weekly that, “From the minute he got out of the limo, they just had this thing together and they’ve had this amazing romance. I think she wants to take care of him. You can tell she deeply loves him.”
