Exclusive sneak peek at the new series 'Tornado Hunters'

The number-one question going into a chat with Saskatchewan-native Ricky Forbes, one of the three stars of the new series Tornado Hunters (series premiere Oct. 18, CMT Canada), is clearly “Why would you ever want to do this?” “There are risks involved but at the same time we’re doing what we absolutely love to do,” he says, adding, “Every morning when I wake up I’m excited about going storm chasing!

The team spends six months of the year seeking out tornados across North America with the help of cameras set up on their truck, allowing the storm chasers to live stream all the action to their fans online. “We want to get as close as we can to the biggest and baddest storms on the planet,” says Ricky. But it’s not all about thrills and adventure. The boys are professional photographers and transporters, meaning they call in warnings to local authorities to alert the public.

While cast member Chris Chittick has been chasing tornados all his life, Greg Johnsonis a former wedding photographer who wanted to switch things up. Ricky tells Hello! that he has always been an adventurer at heart so when he was asked to tag along with some tornado hunters five years ago, he said yes, even though he didn’t know very much about it. “I had seen Twister but I had no idea that people did it in real life.” And after seeing his first tornado, the 29-year old says, “I was hooked.”
