Exclusive first look at the second season of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

With the arrival of 2016 just around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with a sneak peek at one of the most anticipated returning shows? The adorable Ellie Kemper is gearing up to reprise her role as the always-resilient Kimmy Schmidt on the second season of the hit Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Hello! has an exclusive first image from the new season. The series follows the journey of a young woman trying to adjust to life in the real world after being held captive underground by a cult for more than 15 years.

The show’s co-creator Tina Fey, who made a must-see guest appearance in season 1, spilled some secrets from season 2 during a panel at the TCA press tour, saying, “Just because we ended season 1 with the trial — [Kimmy] would love to put that behind her, but some new obstacles may present themselves before she can go on and live a fully realized life. She's sort of in a big hurry to get everything she wanted out of life and hitting some speed bumps along the way." She also promises that viewers can expect to meet Kimmy’s mother, Titus’s estranged wife and watch as Jacquelyn (Jane Krakowski) tries to reconnect with her family.

The comedy had a remarkable first run, scooping up seven Emmy nominations, including outstanding comedy series. Co-creator Robert Carlock (30 Rock) credits the show’s success to its leading lady, saying, “Ellie brings such a different kind of lightness and heart to [the show.] We couldn't have done the show without Ellie and I think that that just reframes everything we do."
