The best nail art at the Emmys

Ever since the E! Red Carpet introduced the Mani Cam we've had close-up access to the best manis around, and this year's Emmy attendees did not disappoint.

New Girl's Zooey Deschanel is the uncontested queen of the mani, from the tiny television sets and tuxes she sported at last year's Emmys and the 2013 Golden Globes respectively, to the 3D sparkly bows bedecking her ring finger at the Critics' Choice TV Awards.

Stepping out once again with her nails in fine form, Zooey chose a mod domino pattern in black and white, the product of yet another collaboration with nail technician Tom Bachik, which she posted on Instagram:

"Modern geometric art was the inspiration," explained Tom. "We wanted something that was really going to pop off the nails to complement her glamorous and formfitting baby blue dress."

Actress Kate Mara of Emmy-nominated Netflix series
House of Cards used the lacy nature of her gown's top to inspire her nail adornments. Kimmie Kyees of Red Carpet Manicure said, "Kate's dress is made of lace and toile with a pattern, so I wanted to create a negative space that mirrored the design on the top of her dress."

Taking a more vampy turn on the red carpet, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland matched her oxblood nails to her lips and left a triangle of polish-free nail bed to play with negative space. The result was just fierce enough for an Emmy winner (Modern Family took home a fourth Emmy for top comedy).

Finally, playwright David Mamet's daughter, Girls actress Zosia Mamet, wore a dark-hued reverse French manicure in grey and black to complement the tones on her patterned gown. "There's a crescent, dark blue moon that leads into a teal colour," Zosia said. "It's a little whacky nail situation!"
