Beyoncé on how eating vegan 'actually keeps the weight off'

After ample speculation on her big announcement, Beyoncé Knowles took to Good Morning America on Monday (June 8) to share her love for her vegan diet. Fans were disappointed to find that the big news had nothing to do with Bey’s music career.

Bey revealed on camera for the first time that she has gone vegan once again – after several successful stints on the 22-day plant-based diet that have previously seen her shed weight. The Drunk in Love singer spoke about how the regime made her more “flawless” than ever.

“This is something I have to share with everyone,” she said in the pre-taped interview. “I am not naturally the thinnest woman. I have curves. I’m proud of my curves and I have struggled since a young age with diets. And finding something that actually works, that actually keeps the weight off, has been difficult for me.”

She noted that another benefit of the diet is how her skin feels: “I felt like my skin was really firm, a lot tighter than when I deprived myself of food and got the weight off fast. And the weight stayed off.”

Beyoncé, 33, has previously hailed The 22-Day Revolution, a book written by celebrity trainer Marco Borges which includes an introduction from none other than herself.

The pair are also starting a vegan meal delivery service.

The video clip shows trainer and nutritionist Marco explain the principle behind the diet: “Psychologists have learned that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, so if you adopted a healthy habit over the course of 21 days, on the 22nd day you’d be armed with a new habit.”

Key rules of The 22-Day Revolution:

  • Choose plants over processed
  • Eat three mindful meals a day
  • Choose carbohydrates over proteins and fat, aiming for 80% unprocessed carbohydrates, 10% fat, 10% protein. Foods to eat include whole plant foods – vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds
  • Exercise for 30 minutes a day
  • Drink plenty of water
