Sun-blocking style: 9 fashionable finds that protect from harmful rays

We’ve officially entered the dog days of summer, that time when the temperature soars and the sun’s rays are at their sharpest. It’s enough to send anyone on the hunt for some open water, and we’ve looked to celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lisa Kurdrow for the key is to protect your skin so it doesn’t get scorched.

Save for simply swiping on SPF-rich beauty products, there are several things you can do to ensure you don’t burn, including investing in UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) fashion. Like sunscreen, these products absorb and filter UV rays to ensure that they don’t damage skin. Madonna and several other celebrities are among the innovation’s A-list fans.

Take Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, for example. The star of The Big Bang Theory recently posted a snap of herself on Instagram wearing body-covering swim trunks. The former sun worshiper has gone on the record to say she never leaves the house without protection nowadays (think sunscreen and a hat).

Then there’s Anne Hathaway, who is often spotted with her face obscured by a large brim and swears by the fashion label Cover Swim. She regularly turns up beachside in the company’s shirts, which block 98 per cent of UV rays.

Ashley Madekwe and Ashley Greene have been known to reach for fashion items that slice the sun’s rays. And Gwyneth Paltrow and Lisa Kudrow love the label Cabana Life, which creates UPF clothes for men, women and children. Other beloved lines to look for include Coolibar and Land’s End.
