When hair, makeup, ensemble, shoes and accessories are all accounted for, the icing on the cake of a fabulous look is a beautiful set of nails. When new mom Blake Lively was in New York promoting The Age of Adaline in April, she wore a whopping 16 outfits in one week, but her long-lasting polish never changed or chipped!
Get your nails to go the distance with a UV-curing topcoat that binds your nail colour to your nail plate longer. “It will give you a salon-like manicure with lots of shine and without as much dry time as traditional topcoats,” says manicurist Naomi Misu. Re-apply the topcoat every few days.
For a fresh take on spring shades, try a new finish by adding a texturizing topcoat. “My favourite way to wear the new pastels is by adding a matte finish to them. This gives your manicure a soft, almost rubbery-looking quality,” says Naomi. If you’re a fan of neutrals (think clean white or nude), add drama with iridescence, like Kerry Washington and Meghan Trainor.
“A thin coat of pearl or opalescent over a bright white shade creates depth and a much glossier finish,” says Naomi. You can also add a bit of edge to neutral nails by finishing them off with easy-to-handle hardware. “I love a dainty gold stone or stud on the nail these days, especially on an opaque, nude shade,” adds manicurist Gina Eppolito.
