‘Insecure’ star Issa Rae is the new face of CoverGirl

Issa Rae is officially the newest face of CoverGirl. The talented creative shared the incredible news on her Instagram on Sept 12, where she gushed about her excitement.

The photo, of the actress getting her makeup done, included the caption, “I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”

In a press release regarding the announcement, the 32-year-old star of the hit HBO series Insecure spoke about the impact makeup has made in her life, saying, “My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona—whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life.”

She also delved into what it means for her to join the brand and the importance of welcoming diversity. “Becoming a Covergirl means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”

CoverGirl may have made her dreams come true, but Issa made a name for herself well before she joined the makeup empire. She initially gained popularity in college, when she started a YouTube channel to share her views and perspectives with the world. That ultimately lead her to writing and starring in her own series, which follows two black women as they navigate the trials and tribulations of their everyday lives.

The show is already preparing for its third season, as Issa announced early last month on her Twitter account.
