Kelly Clarkson reveals why she named her daughter River Rose

Within one year, Kelly Clarkson became a wife and a mother, and she couldn't be happier about it. "My whole life took a big 180," the US singer told People magazine. "I never thought I would be a mum, so it's very much changed my world in the most awesome way." In between her pop star duties, the 32-year-old spends her days with husband Brandon Blackstock, her stepchildren Savannah and Seth, and the couple's eight-month-old daughter River Rose – who Kelly describes as "the happiest baby on the planet". The star also revealed the meaning behind her little girl's moniker.

"We were going back and forth on what to name her," she confided. "And I like androgynous names." Inspiration struck one day as she and husband Brandon were relaxing at their Nashville home. "We live on a river, so it really wasn't that creative," Kelly said with a laugh. "We were outside on our balcony, and we both looked at each other and were like, 'What about River? That's kind of cool.'" And the name Rose? "It’s my mother's maiden name," she added. "And I love alliteration." Becoming a mother has brought that star "a certain level of peace I didn't know was going to come with it". It has also helped to heal some of the wounds caused by her own parents' divorce.

"My best friend always said, 'You just want to create the family you never had.' I might be doing that," Kelly confessed. "In defence of my family, it happens. People fall out of love, and people go separate ways. People are human. "I've accomplished a lot, but I guess the biggest success I want is that whenever I die people will say, 'She was so successful as a mother, and as a wife.' That's kind of my big goal."
