Charlize Theron 'adopts a baby daughter'

Two months after splitting with Sean Penn, Charlize Theron has reportedly become a mum of two after adopting a little girl. According to TMZ, the 39-year-old has gained custody of an African-American baby named August, who was "born in the United States".The website states that Charlize became August’s mother last month after a six-month adoption process. They add that she specifically wanted a daughter this time around. The Mad Max star adopted son Jackson in 2012 from South Africa.

Charlize, who celebrates her 40th birthday this week, said in May she wouldn’t rule out adding to her family, but gave no clues she was about to adopt.

When asked if she would like more children, the blonde star replied: "Yeah. I mean, I'm so open to anything in my life. I was never like, 'Oh god no just one.' I was always kind of open to whatever kind of happens."

Reports abounded that Charlize had split with Sean - her boyfriend of one and a half years - in June, though the actress has yet to comment on the stories.

Their break-up came as a big shock to fans given that, in separate interviews, both had proclaimed the other to be the love of their life.

The couple – who had been friends for nearly 20 years before they started dating in December 2013 - were almost inseparable during their romance, often spending time with the actress' three-year-old son Jackson.One of their final appearances together was on the red carpet in Cannes, where they seemed very much in love. A few days later, they were seen deep in conversation, with Sean's arm wrapped tightly around the actress.According to reports, it was Charlize who ended the relationship. "Charlize wasn't responding to his calls and texts," an insider told US Weekly of the Mad Max: Fury Road star. "She just cut it off."
