Canadian singer Shawn Mendes reaches number 1 on iTunes

As a teenager, Justin Bieber rose to fame through his YouTube channel and social media. Now, 15-year-old newcomer Shawn Mendes is following in the Canadian singer’s footsteps – and garnering international attention to boot.

Shawn, who hails from Pickering, Ontario, is sitting on top of the iTunes charts, having just released his self-titled debut album.

With more than 1.47 million Twitter followers – and a jaw-dropping 2.9 million Vine fans – the social media-savvy star is the youngest artist to ever earn a top 25 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list with his first single, “Life of the Party” (it reached number 24 this month).

For his second single, “Show You,” the teenager released a sweet music video, which shows the handsome singer crooning and walking down the street while the lyrics appear on the screen.

The teen heartthrob first gained a music following after he posted a six-second clip of himself singing Justin’s “As Long As You Love Me,” on Vine, which earned him 10,000 fans overnight.

It's no wonder he's poised to become the next big thing. One year later, he has a record deal — and an avid Twitter fan base to rival Justin's in his early days. (Justin now has 53 million followers, second only to Katy Perry and more than Barack Obama).
