The album produced countless hits, from lead single “You Oughta Know” to “Ironic” to “You Learn.”
To commemorate her almost two-decade-long career, the 40-year-old singer published an unretouched photo from the album’s cover shoot. It shows the Canadian chanteuse looking natural in the grass with bee-stung lips and tousled brown locks, akin to a young Liv Tyler.
She also posted the photo to Instagram and noted, “I had just moved to L.A. I was 20 years old. There was much giddiness buzzing all around me. All I knew was that I wrote a record that I loved and represented me well. I was unwilling to stop until I had.”
And the album was a huge success, considering it peaked at number one on countless charts in Canada and the United States and by 2009 had sold more than 33 million copies worldwide.
Alanis is currently touring her "intimate and acoustic" show across North America with a final stop on September 26 in Windsor, ON. The only other scheduled Canadian stop to date is a performance at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario on August 15.
