We’ve come to love Lorde and her goth-inspired aesthetic, but last night at the New Zealand Music Awards, the 18-year-old turned up sporting an entirely new look. Donning a white suit and a red bandeau that showed off her abs, the singer picked up six Tuis – including Album of the Year and Single of the Year.
To complement the ensemble, the New Zealand native kept her curly locks loose and makeup minimal, though she did sport bright red lips to match her bralet.
Though the look is a distinct departure from the outfits we’ve seen her wear in the past, it’s not a sartorial shift that’s entirely surprising. Lorde (a.k.a Ella Yellich-O’Connor) has been doing a bunch of work for mega fashion and beauty brands as of late, including M.A.C, and posing in high style for magazines like fashion-tome V. She’s also become quite close with one of Hollywood’s best-dressed stars, Jennifer Lawrence.

It was clear that the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 songstress is comfortable with her new style – she took seflies with fans while walking the award ceremony’s red carpet.
The singer went on to thank New Zealanders who’ve supported her career: “You have moved mountains for me, you have changed my life.”

She also made a quip about where she would store her statues: “In my house the Tuis go in the kitchen, which may not sound that impressive but in my house the kitchen is the really important place to be.”
