Kanye West to headline the Glastonbury festival and receive an honourary doctorate

Kanye West’s hot streak is continuing in Somerset, England this summer as the rapper is set to headline the Glastonbury festival in June. Emily Eavis, who co-organizes the music event, broke the news on Twitter, saying “We are thrilled to let you know we have the one and only Kanye West headlining Saturday night on the Pyramid stage!”

It has already been announced the Foo Fighters will headline Friday night at the festival, while the main act for Sunday is yet to be revealed. Tickets for this year’s festival sold out in less than 30 minutes when they went on sale last October, while music fans paying £225, approximately $420 CAD, to attend the event at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Kanye also revealed some other big news this week – he’s set to receive an honorary doctorate from the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago, People magazine reports.

I was a gifted artist since age five and won national competitions and went to art school,” the 37-year-old said in an interview with French media outlet Clique. “I’m actually getting an honorary doctorate on May 5 from the Art Institute of Chicago.”

It will be Kanye’s first known doctorate – although he has received plenty of accolades since leaving school, including 21 Grammy Awards.

He is no stranger to art school either; Kanye attended American Academy of Art and Chicago State University before dropping out at the age of 20 to pursue a full-time music career. He pointedly called his 2004 debut album, The College Dropout.

A representative for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago told People that they have not yet finalised the list of honorary degree recipients for this year, but said they would announce them later this week. The spokesperson also declined to confirm whether or not Kanye was on the list of possible candidates for the honorary degree.
