MMVAs 2015: All the highlights and winners

Thousands of fans jammed into the intersection of Queen St. and John St. in downtown Toronto to party with some of music’s hottest talents, including Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and surprise guest Drakeat the 2015 Much Music Video Awards (MMVAs).

American rock band Fall Out Boy kicked off the show with a high-energy performance of ‘Uma Thurman’ followed by Canadian pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen, who belted out, “I really, really, really like you,” to the excited crowd outside the Much Music headquarters. On the red carpet before her performance, the BC native revealed to Hello! Canadathat her upcoming third album ‘Emotion’ (out June 24) was inspired by the 1980s - and one particularly awesome Cyndi Lauper concert she saw in Osaka, Japan.

Model Gigi Hadid, who led the fashion parade dressed in a personalized white leather jacket and cream pencil skirt by Canadian designer Mikhael Kale, joined co-host Ed Sheeran on stage to present the night's first award for ‘Best Pop Video.” Toronto-based singer The Weekndcaptured his first of four trophies for his sensual hit “Earned It” from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. Gigi's ex-boyfriend Cody Simpson was also on hand, as was Nick Jonas, the younger brother of her new beau, Joe Jonas. Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, Bella Thorne and Debby Ryan rounded out the stellar list of presenters.

The Weeknd’s friend and collaborator Drakemade an unannounced appearance at the show to present the ‘Best Hip Hop Video’ award to rapper P. Reign for his single “DnF,” on which the “Started From the Bottom” rapper is featured.

Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, who gushed to Hello Canada about his love for Canada – and burger chain Harvey’s! – had the pleasure of introducing the show’s most anticipated performer, Ed Sheeran. The British crooner captivated the audience with a chilling performance of his current single, ‘Photograph,” and by night’s end, Ed left his hosting duties with two trophies for Best International Artist and Most Buzzworthy International Artist. Jason Derulo closed out the show with a sexy dance-fueled performance of his single “Want To Want Me.” It was the perfect ending to a memorable night of music that left audiences counting down the days until the 2016 edition kicks off next spring.
