Celine Dion really loves Sia. The Canadian singer is such a fan that she took time out of her busy schedule to pen a heartfelt essay on the eccentric songstress for Billboard as part of its New Pioneers series. "Sia is simply incredible, like no one I've ever met," writes Celine, adding that she is 'mesmerized' by her confidence.
"[Sia] is an artist with a clear vision -- for her songs, her videos, her performances," says Celine, who first met the "Cheap Thrills" singer back in 2013 when they worked together on the title track "Loved Me Back to Life" off of the Montreal native's 11th English-language album.
Celine admits that she knew she made the right move singing a Sia-penned song when her son René-Charles gave her his stamp of approval. "He's much cooler than I am and teaches me what music I should listen to. He couldn't believe that Sia wrote a song for me."
Speaking about the song, Celine writes: "It's so powerful – like nothing I had ever heard. I listened to the demo 20 times in a row that day because her words spoke to me and I just couldn't get enough of her voice."
She goes on to reveal that the first time she met the mysterious star was backstage at the Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I invited Sia, and that day backstage was the first time we met. She is so genuine, so warm, so funny -- I was the one who asked to take a photo with her!"
The mother of three also notes her admiration for Sia's strength and determination to stay true to herself in an industry that can sometimes tear you down. "This industry can break you; it's tough," writes Celine, adding, "But Sia has managed to carve out her own path, on her own terms and in her own time. She's the true definition of an artist, one I so deeply admire. I'm one of her biggest fans, and it has been such a joy and honour to get to know her."
