Listen to this: New singles from The Weeknd and DJ Snake

By Nicholas Jennings

Canadian artists dominated the recent American Music Awards, which saw Drake receive 12 AMA nominations, beating out Michael Jackson's record for most at a single ceremony. Other Great White North musicians in the running included Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Justin Bieber and the Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye. Ultimately, Abel lost out to Justin for Favourite Male Pop/Rock Artist. But both artist win for having this week’s hottest tracks.

The Weeknd: “Sidewalks” feat. Kendrick Lamar
The track features The Weeknd’s distinctive falsetto, a pulsing beat and slinky vibe as he tells us how he learned everything from the street, a view echoed in Kendrick’s rap.

The Weeknd recently sat down for a one-on-one with Zane Lowe for Beats 1 and opened up about some aspects of the recording process for this project, including working with Kendrick Lamar, who the Canadian crooner called “a genius.”

DJ Snake: “Let Me Love You” feat. Justin Bieber
The French producer builds a bed of swelling synths and booming beats for Justin’s lovelorn vocals, where he sings “Heaven’s a heartbreak away.”

When Justin performed the song in concert in Bologna, Italy on Nov. 19, he had the audience singing along with every word—just as he’d done at the American Music Awards.
