The White House delighted Twitter fans by sharing a picture of President Barack Obama's dog Bo, which soon went viral.
"Bo, stop trying to make fetch happen," the caption reads, alongside the snap of the Portuguese water dog sitting patiently with a tennis ball in his mouth in the Oval Office. The line is a joke from cult hit Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan.
Since posting the picture, it has been retweeted almost 20,000 times. Bo has proved a breakaway hit on the White House accounts, even claiming his very own album on the White House Facebook page.
The Obama family's recent trip to Martha's Vineyards in Massachusetts saw Bo arrive separately in his own helicopter.
The family stayed in Chilmark on the western tip of the island, an area dotted with multi-million dollar homes. The neighbours include actor Ted Danson and the singer Carly Simon.
On several previous visits the Obamas had stayed at the 28-acre Blue Heron Farm, but it has since been sold to Britain's most celebrated architect, Baron Foster of Thames Bank. The president has therefore had to downsize to a 5,000-square foot retreat on nine acres owned by a businessman friend from Chicago. It includes a basketball court.
