Queen Rania and Queen Letizia give lessons in elegance during tour

It was a fashionable meeting indeed as Queen Rania of Jordan and Queen Letizia of Spain met at Madrid's Barajas airport on Thursday (Nov. 19). The Jordanian royal is on tour with her husband, King Abdullah II, and the fashion parade is clearly in full swing.

Rania and Abdullah were greeted by Letizia and King Felipe on the runway, a sign of the special treatment and great fondness the two couples have for each other.

Normally, Felipe and Letizia would receive their guests at the El Pardo palace, but it was clear they couldn't wait to see their friends and fellow royals as soon as they landed.

With not a hair out of place, Rania showed no signs of having travelled for hours. The 45-year-old queen looked ultra-glam in a smart red coat that featured white trim detailing and contrasting blue pockets that matched her dress underneath.

Likewise, Letizia showed off her style credentials and also chose to wear red in a nod to her country. She has the reputation of being one of Europe's most stylish queens and she selected a striking tweed dress by one of her favourite local designers, Felipe Varela.

Rania and King Abdullah II are on a state visit to Spain.

On Thursday evening, the two queens will have a chance to shine at a private dinner organized at El Pardo palace. Both couples are likely to be joined by former King Juan Carlos, who abdicated in June 2014 but retains his title, and his wife, former Queen Sofia.

When Felipe was pronounced king last year, Abdullah and Rania were among the first royal couples to congratulate the monarchs. Abdullah sent a message expressing his "enthusiasm" in the two countries working together to develop their relations.
