Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia won't find out baby's gender

Like all first-time parents, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his wife, Princess Sofia, were able to choose whether they would like to know the gender of their baby or not, and the newlyweds have decided to go for the surprise. The couples' first little prince or princess is due in April and they're absolutely thrilled.

"It'll be a surprise," Sofia told a reporter in New York. "It feels great."

Prince Carl Philip also revealed that he'd been offered some parenting advice from his sisters Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Princess Madeleine.

Officials also revealed, "The birth is expected to take place in April of 2016. No changes in the schedule of the Prince Couple's public engagements are planned during the fall of 2015."

Sofia has continued to fulfil her royal duties throughout her pregnancy, and recently travelled to South Africa to carry out work with one of her charities, Project Playground. The expectant princess is currently enjoying a private getaway in New York with her husband, and will resume her duties at the end of the month.

Sofia is not the only member of the Swedish royal family expecting a baby in 2016; her sister-in-law Crown Princess Victoria is expecting her second child in March. The heir to the Swedish throne recently joked about her new arrival, telling reporters that her daughter Princess Estelle would prefer to have a pet hamster than a baby brother or sister.
