Justin Trudeau enjoyed a happy reunion with the Queen on Wednesday (July 5), when he dropped by Her Majesty’s official residence in Scotland, the Palace of Holyroodhouse. According the prime minister’s office, the get-together was organized to give Justin the opportunity to “honour [Queen Elizabeth’s] importance to Canada's history, thank her for her continued dedication to Canada and carrying out her duties with such grace and strength.”

Unfortunately, the PM’s visit was a short one, as he has many engagements lined up in Ireland and Scotland before heading to Hamburg on July 7 for the G20 Summit.

Wednesday’s meeting marks the second time the prime minister has had a private audience with the monarch. Justin first met the Queen back in Nov. 2015 when he visited Buckingham Palace shortly after winning the federal election.

After their meeting in London, both travelled to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta, where the Queen famously called out the PM for making her “feel so old.” Of course, it was all in good fun, as the 91-year-old had previously expressed her amazement over seeing the politician again decades after meeting him as the son of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

The Queen arrived in Scotland on Monday (July 3) to kick off the annual Holyrood Week of celebrations. The monarch will venture back to London next week to host King Felipeand Queen Letizia of Spain at Buckingham Palace before retreating to Balmoral in northern Scotland for her summer holiday.
