Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s wedding weekend was straight out of a modern fairy tale, the perfect culmination of their whirlwind romance. The couple brought together their two unique worlds in a series of vibrant celebrations, culminating in a beautiful Christian ceremony on Dec. 1 and a stunning Hindu ceremony the following day, both at the spectacular Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. In HELLO! Canada’s exclusive first look, the loved-up groom kisses his blushing bride’s hand as they bask in their first moments as husband and wife.
Officiated by Nick’s father, Paul Kevin Jonas Sr., the Western celebration was as dreamy as it was joyful, a haze of blush-pink florals, green trees, golden accents and glittering fireworks – with one of the most opulent and enchanting structures ever built as the backdrop. Like her close friend Duchess Meghan, whose royal “I dos” the star attended in May, Priyanka’s nuptials were quickly cemented as one of the weddings of the year – and her Ralph Lauren gown, with its sweeping 75-ft tulle veil, was truly fit for a princess.
The Quantico star’s custom confection paired a strapless column gown bedecked with 2,380,000 mother-of-pearl sequins with a hand-beaded and hand-embroidered overlay – one that took a whopping 1,826 hours to complete, and to jaw-dropping effect! Its shimmering array of scroll and floral motifs were embellished with pearl paillettes and Swarovski crystals, and a row of buttons up the front gave way to a stunning, scalloped high collar. The 36-year-old wore her rich brown locks swept up into a twist with soft, wavy tendrils framing her face.
It’s only fitting that the American designer – who first dressed the then-secret couple for their first joint appearance at the Met Gala in 2017 – saw to it that they were picture perfect on their wedding day. "For the western wedding, we had been talking to a bunch of incredible designers," revealed Priyanka. "But ultimately when Ralph Lauren approached us (they're so much a part of our love story for obvious reasons) and I learned that Ralph has only designed three wedding dresses in 50 years - one for his daughter, his daughter in law, and his niece - I was blown. Then when we went in for the sketch presentation, they created exactly what I envisioned for myself on my wedding day... and I said yes to the dress."
Nick looked dapper as ever in a double-breasted Ralph Lauren tuxedo with a black bowtie and patent leather shoes as he gazed lovingly at his breathtaking bride. To keep her close to his heart, the singer had a piece of fabric from Priyanka’s gown stitched inside his lapel with the Urdu words "My Jaan" (meaning "My life"). The former Bollywood star also had special phrases embroidered on her gown: Nicholas Jerry Jonas, December 1, 2018, Madhu & Ashok, Om Namah Shivay (a Hindu mantra dedicated to the God Shiva), plus Family, Hope, Compassion and Love. She also had a piece of her mother-in-law's lace wedding gown sewn into her own.
"I love that our wedding is a religious mash up," the bride told HELLO! exclusively. "We are taking beautiful traditions that we both grew up with and we are personalizing them in a way that makes sense for us." She continued: "It's been incredible to find the commonalities between our beliefs and figuring out how to blend them in a respectful and meaningful way."
Ralph was also behind the bridesmaid’s soft-pink dresses and the flower girls’ darling ensembles, as well as the outfits worn by the couple’s parents and godparents. Among the members of the bridal party were Nick’s brothers and former bandmates – Joe Jonas and his fiancée, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, and Kevin Jonas with his wife Danielle, plus their little brother Frankie Jonas. Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra and cousin Parineeti Chopra were also on hand for the festivities, as were the groom’s parents, Paul and Denise Jonas.
At the end of the day, it was the details that blew Nick away. "Just how thoughtful it is," he said. "Finding the meaning behind every detail really just made me fall in love with the culture even more." But the one thing he's sure of is his love for his bride, despite their whirlwind romance. "Both of our parents actually got married pretty quickly after meeting each other," he shared. "Mine were three months and her parents 10 days. People always say 'you know when you know' - but really, 'you know when you know.'"
