Here are some highlights from the conversation:
HELLO! Canada: You were in New York for bridal fashion week. What are some of the most exciting, new trends for the season to come?
Jessica Mulroney: There were so many regal and elegant dresses shown on runways. Simple and beautiful construction is definitely the new look of bridal. Some fun trends were removable sleeves (something for the ceremony and something for the party), high collars and we are still seeing lots of capes!
You’re a champion of Canadian designers. Are there any Canadian brands that have caught your eye in the bridal market?
I’ve always been a fan of Ines Di Santo, Rivini, Christopher Paunil, Romona Keveza and Dicarlo Couture.
There are so many options for recently engaged brides-to-be. How do you recommend they start the search for the perfect dress?
Create a Pinterest page of styles you like and know your budget! From there, book an apt at a store like Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay that carries a huge variety of styles and price points. It is very hard to know what you will like until you start trying on shapes. That is why going to a reputable store with a vast selection is key.
What’s the key to finding a dress that that will stand the test of time?
Go classic with beautiful construction and you will never regret your choice. Do NOT over accessorize.
Celebrities like Mandy Moore and Chrissy Teigen have switched up their wedding day looks with a second dress. How do you suggest finding a party dress to suit your style?
Having a second dress is a very popular choice nowadays. Choose something classic and understated to walk down the aisle and then change into a dress that reflects more your personality. You can go a little sexier, a little shorter, just have fun with it.
What is the biggest mistake brides make when searching for the perfect dress?
Not trying on different shapes. We all think we know what looks good on us and often we are right, but a wedding gown is a whole different category. Try to stay open minded.
