Every time the Olympic Games roll around, we wait with great anticipation to see what the opening ceremony has in store – and the kick-off for 2014’s winter games in Sochi is no exception.

From the Queen’s grand entrance with James Bond (a.k.a. Daniel Craig) at the 2012 Olympics in London, to a flying man wearing a futuristic jetpack in 1984’s Los Angeles games, each opening is as much a parade of the arts (song, dance, history) as a spectacle that shocks and delights audiences.
