He’s been travelling the globe with World Vision Canada for years now, but Rick Campanelli has never gotten used to the sheer volume of children in need. And it hits home more than ever now that he’s a father of two.
“It was tough stuff. Not just for me as a dad, but I’m sure for anyone. You can’t believe what you’re seeing. Everywhere you go you’ll see kids in these situations to make money for their families to survive,” the ET Canada host tells Hello! following his latest journey to Cambodia to witness the organization’s work with vulnerable children. “My heart went out to every kid I saw. I wanted to bring them all back with me.”
The World Vision Canada ambassador shares his journey in our newest issue of Hello! Canada as the No Child For Sale GTA sponsorship campaign kicks off May 1. During his trip, Rick toured several of World Vision’s latest projects, including a brick factory and trauma recovery centre.
His favourite part, however, was bonding with his youngest fans. “It’s a beautiful thing. I can’t speak their language, but we played silly games. There was a Frisbee – it wasn’t even a full Frisbee – but we were trying to throw it back and forth. These are special moments. They inspire me, these kids, these families.”
Little does he know he’s an inspiration, too. And that’s something he’s sure to pass on to his children, son Noah, 9, from his first marriage, and newborn baby Jack with his TV producer wife Angie.
