Betty White may be 92 years old, but the Golden Girls star continues to prove that she’s absolutely young at heart!
The beloved octogenarian comedian took to Reddit on Tuesday (April 29) for an ‘Ask Me Anything (AMA),’ a popular feature of the news aggregation site that lets fans and readers probe into the lives of notable people. Past AMAs have included names such as Col. Chris Hadfield, Will Ferrell, George Clooney and Bill Gates to name a few.
Betty hosted her very own AMA to mark the 100th episode of Hot in Cleveland, her saucy sitcom with Just Shoot Me’s Wendie Malick, One Day at a Time’s Valerie Bertinelli, Frasier’s Jane Leeves and Mary Tyler Moore.
Here, we've gathered five amazing facts garnered from Betty’s Reddit AMA:
On her famous friends
Reddit user WubShrimp asked, “Who do you think is the most famous person you have ever met?” Betty replied, “President Obama, President Clinton, President Bush Sr., The Queen of England.”
On carbs, and loving them
Reddit user Sirwootalot asked, “What’s your favourite technological innovation of the past 25 years?” Betty replied, “Sliced bread?” Having been born in 1922, the former Johnny Carson co-host pre-dates the existence of sliced bread (invented in 1928) by six years.
On loving Lucille Ball
Ronson1911 asked, “Did you ever meet Lucille Ball? If so what was she like?” Betty replied, “Lucy was one of my dearest friends. Our mothers were best friends. She was dynamite. Everything you saw was what you got. We used to play backgammon, and she used to teach me the game but she used to move the pieces so fast. I used to say how are you teaching me if you move the pieces so fast and she would say I want to win!”
Nimartel asked, “If you could relive one specific moment, what would it be?” Betty replied, “Well at 92, that question gets pretty rough to answer. There have been so many special moments. One of the top ones was marrying Allen Ludden.” Allen died from stomach cancer on June 9, 1981, and Betty has never remarried.
On Chris Rock playing her in a biopic
Chrisncsu asked, “If they were making a Betty White biopic, who do you envision playing the role of Betty White?” To which she replied, “I would love it if it were Meryl Streep or Julie Andrews but would probably cast someone like Chris Rock.” That would definitely me something!
