Ryan Gosling Father's Day Facebook hoax tricks one million fans

A fake Father’s Day Facebook post detailing how Ryan Gosling had adopted an orphaned baby for a year has been exposed as a hoax – but not before duping nearly one million fans.

Posted on Saturday, June 14 on an unverified Facebook page, which was posing as the Most Beautiul Canadian actor’s personal account, it tells the tall tale of how Ryan volunteered to “look after” a friend’s baby when she died.

“This father’s day, I’ve decided to tell the story of how I became a father. This little guy was only months old when I became his dad. His mum and I were great friends before she passed away from cancer,” the post read, as if written by the actor himself.

Along with a super-cute photo of the star holding a baby, the story described how Ryan, 33, decided to “step up and become his dad” but lost custody to the child's biological father a year later.

“That 1 year of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally,” wrote the fraudster.

Additionally, the post linked out to a site where users could purchase a T-shirt that read “Young Wild and Free,” claiming that proceeds would go to the Orphanage Home Foundation, which does not exist.

The post generated more than 936,000 likes and 51,000 shares before it was taken down, with fans swooning over the handsome actor’s secret daddy status.
