Avril Lavigne helps children with disabilities live life to the full

Avril Lavigne is giving back this summer with her philanthropic program Camp S.T.A.R.S, which gives scholarships to children with disabilities so they can enjoy the summer camp experience.

Inspired by her trip to Easter Seals Camp Oakes in Southern California last year, where the chanteuse is said to have connected with campers, Avril was reminded of her own summer experiences before she became an A-list star.

“I’m so thrilled to continue this program this summer," the pop-rock starlet said in a statement. "We heard so many great stories from the program last year – I can’t wait to hear more!”

The Camp S.T.A.R.S program (an acronym for Summer Time Avril Rock Stars) launches at six Easter Seals summer camps across Canada and the United States, including South Carolina, Virginia, Houston, Washington, Southern California and Alberta.

Avril’s foundation funds camp scholarships for 50 children with disabilities who live at or below the poverty line, which limits their access to camps.

She cares deeply about making sure kids and young people with disabilities have every opportunity to live life to the fullest, pursue their dreams and find happiness,” Easter Seals CEO, James E.
