Iconic Canadian comedian Mike Myers paid tribute to fallen Canadian soldier Cpl. Nathan Cirillo at Elton John’s annual AIDS benefit in New York.

The 51-year-old funnyman sported a golden maple-leaf pin over his heart in tribute of the 24-year-old reservist who was killed while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Oct. 22.

“I wore a Canada pin in honour of Cpl. Cirillo who was laid to rest today,” the Austin Powers actor said. “[It’s] very important to show your respect to a great Canadian and a hero.”

Cpl. Nathan was buried in Hamilton on Oct. 28, 2014.

At the ceremony, a note from the Queen was read aloud, which stated, “I send my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this tragedy, in particular to members of Cpl. Cirillo’s own family.”
