‘I just had a baby!’ Eva Mendes gets tongue-tied during Stand Up to Cancer speech

Eva Mendes hasn't slept much during these past few months. The 40-year-old new mom, who welcomed her first baby, daughter Esmeralda Amda, in September, was giving a speech at the Stand Up to Cancer event this week when exhaustion got the best of her and she stumbled over her lines. The star’s recovery, however, was incredibly charming.

Reading off a teleprompter, Eva accidentally misspoke the lines that were being fed to her: "…against the fight of cancer —" she said, fumbling. "I'm sorry, go back? You guys got it? Against the cancer fight!"

Realizing her mistake, the brunette star then laughed, “ I just had a baby! I haven't slept. I'm sorry. Thank you so much for inviting me to join you tonight...”

Earlier in her speech, Ryan Gosling’s longtime love became emotional when talking about her brother, Carlos, who despite having just undergone a cancer treatment earlier that day, managed to make it out to the event.

"He had treatment today," she said, as she fought back tears, "and we weren't sure if he was going to be feeling up to it. So, I'm so happy you made it, and I love you. I love you!"

Wowing in a long-sleeved navy-blue Preen cocktail dress with appliqués, the gorgeous actress later mingled with fellow A-list moms Katie Couric, Susan Downey (Robert Downey Jr.’s wife) and Matthew McConaughey's wife, Camilla Alves.

John Legend performed with rapper Common at the event, which raised more than $16 million for charity.
