Ryan Reynolds on his baby daughter: She's 'allergic to sleep'

Ryan Reynolds has taken to fatherhood very naturally, but the new dad's experience hasn't been without its hiccups. On Monday (Mar. 2), the actor once again addressed his favourite subject since welcoming his first child with Blake Lively just three months ago, saying the famous couple hasn't been getting much sleep since their baby girl arrived.

“Our baby, in particular, is, we think, allergic to sleep,” Ryan told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “We think that she thinks she's protecting us from the sleep monsters. Like, ‘Oh I have to keep them up or the sleep monsters will get them.’”

The 38-year-old admitted that he had tried a few tactics to get the newborn to sleep, but they haven't proved successful.

Ryan Reynolds joked that his daughter is “allergic to sleep”

“The trick I try to use is that Baby Einstein stuff,” he explained. “But for me, that's like horse tranquiliser – I could go down on a lit stove.”

Joking aside, Ryan admitted that his daughter has “got me wrapped around her finger”, adding that fatherhood is "the best”.

The Green Lantern actor has been vocal about his love for his baby daughter, and revealed in February that she is now his top priority.

The actor welcomed his first child with wife Blake Lively in December

“I used to say to [Blake], ‘ I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you’”, Ryan told David Letterman. “I would say that to my wife. And as soon as I looked in that baby's eyes, I knew in that exact moment that if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby.”

However it’s not all bad for Blake, as Ryan revealed that he loves her even more since she gave birth to their daughter.

“I’m not one for vomiting declarations out across the airways, but when we had that baby, I fell more in love with my wife than I'd ever been in my entire life,” he revealed.

One thing that Ryan and Blake have not been so open about however, is their baby's name. The actor previously denied that they had called the little girl Violet, but he has not addressed more recent speculation that they have named their first-born James.
