George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney were no different from many couples around the world this past Saturday night as they went on a date night. Their hands clenched tightly, the loved up couple took a break from their busy schedules to enjoy a romantic dinner at Kappo Masa – a Japanese restaurant in New York’s Upper East Side.
Amal, 37, stole the spotlight in a statement yellow coat, which she teamed with a black floral mini skirt and heels. She added another splash of colour with a pop of red on her lips. Her handsome husband, meanwhile, was dressed casually in jeans, a long navy overcoat and scarf, and kept a tight grip on his beautiful partner as they headed for home.
New York will be home to George and Amal for the foreseeable future. George, 53, is busy in the Big Apple filming his new movie Money Monster, while London-based attorney Amal recently announced she is joining Columbia University this spring as a visiting faculty member and as a senior fellow with the law school’s Human Rights Institute. Her new position will likely last until 15 May.
“It is an honour to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool,” Amal said in an official statement. “I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here.”
Amal’s impressive curriculum makes her the ideal candidate for the job. She has served as a senior adviser to Kofi Annan and represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in extradition proceedings. She has also handled numerous cases before the International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights.
While she is lecturing, husband George will be at the nearby Kaufman Studios in Long Island, filming the Jodie-Foster directed movie, which also stars Julia Roberts and Dominic West. George stars in the thriller as a financial TV personality Lee Gates who is held hostage by a viewer who lost all of his money following a bad tip from Lee on his show.
George recently spoke lovingly about his wife of five months – who he described as “the smart one”.
“I’m very happy. It’s exciting,” he said of married life, as he stepped out solo for the SeriousFun Children’s Network’s New York Gala last week. “I really love my wife, I’m having a great time and I’m very proud of her. I couldn’t be more proud of the things she does.”
