Two Canadian megastars for the price of one! It was a match for the ages when tennis phenomenon Eugenie Bouchard – or "Genie," as she likes to be called – shared the court with pop-star Justin Bieber for the Desert Smash celebrity charity tournament in California this week.
Organizer Will Ferrell acted as a judge and commentator for the event, which saw Genie and Justin face off against comedian Kevin Hart and TV host Billy Bush in a friendly game of mixed doubles.

Later, the Montreal-born tennis player took to Instagram to share her excitement with fans. “So much fun playing tennis with @justinbieber Will Ferrel & @kevinhart4real at @desertsmash,” she wrote.
The professional athlete’s admiration for the 21-year-old singer from Stratford, Ontario has been well documented. In 2014, she was asked about her celebrity crush at the Australian Open, to which Genie sheepishly replied, “Justin Bieber,” and covered her face.
Aside from the celebrity match-ups, the blond sports star also faced off against fellow tennis pro Daniela Hantuchova at the event, which was held in support of the Cancer for College charity.
Genie grabbed national headlines last summer when she became the first Canadian to reach the finals at Wimbledon, garnering a circle of celebrity friends that includes Drake, Jim Parsons and, of course, Justin, who was charmed by the "celebrity crush" interview that inevitably went viral.
Since then, Genie fever has officially taken hold, as fans – who call themselves “the Genie Army” – continue to be captivated by the athlete’s unique blend of beauty and talent. Late last year, she signed with IMG models "to expand her presence in the fashion industry” and posed for an exclusive fashion spread with Hello! Canada. She is also currently sponsored by Coca Cola.
