Ioni James Conran: The meaning behind Coco Rocha’s baby daughter’s name

She has an unusual moniker herself, so when it came time for Coco Rocha to pick a name for her daughter, the Canadian supermodel wanted something unique. She and husband James Conran were in New York celebrating the launch of Plenti this week, when reporters inquired about baby Ioni James Conran and how the couple had landed on the baby girl’s name.

“We went through thousands of names,” James told reporters. “And we both saw Ioni and visually it looks really cool.”

“When she was born, we were like, is she an Ioni?” he added. “And [it] was the most fitting.”

Pronounced Ay-ah-niy, the rare name means “island” in Scottish. Though neither parents are from Scotland, Toronto-born Coco is of Irish descent.
