The Kardashian/Jenner clan has taken to social media to congratulate and show their support for Caitlyn Jenner following the release of hercover of Vanity Fair's July issue. Now her mother, Esther Jenner, is speaking out about her child’s transformation.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the 88-year-old mother of two says that she loves and supports Caitlyn, but “I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that.” She also revealed that she had a chance to meet Caitlyn and that she seems, “so much more at ease.” And even though Esther admits that it will take some time to get used to the changes in Caitlyn’s appearance, she says, “I’m very happy for him – or her!”
Esther also appeared in Bruce’s sit down with Diane Sawyer, his highly anticipated coming out as transgender that aired on 20/20 in April. “I want you to be happy and I love you,” she said before praising her son’s courage, “I was very proud of you when you stood on that podium in Montreal … I never thought I could be more proud of you, but I’m learning I can be.”
Caitlyn’s youngest son, Rob Kardashian, has been absent from all of the TV specials documenting her journey, but he too is supportive of the parent that raised him following the death of his father Robert Kardashian in 2003. On the red carpet at the CFDA Awards in New York, Kim told reporters that when she emailed a picture of Caitlyn to Rob he asked, “Why are you sending me this? Who is this woman and why do I care?” After learning who it was, he declared, “Oh my God, she’s beautiful!” and he quickly called Caitlyn and, according to Kim, “they had a love fest.”
