After a whirlwind romance and a loved-up appearance at Cannes, Sean Penn and Charlize Theron have reportedly called off their engagement. While the two were keen to gush about one another in interviews and Sean was spending loads of time with Charlize's three-year-old son, Jackson, the pair have reportedly been living separately in recent weeks - she in Hollywood and he in Malibu.
According to Us Weekly, the 39-year-old star of Mad Max: Fury Road was the one to call time on the relationship with her 54-year-old beau. Just last month, Charlize raved about Sean to HELLO!, saying "I have met the love of my life."
After Sean supported Charlize at numerous red-carpet premieres for the action-packed summer blockbuster, the couple's next stop was the Cannes Film Festival, where all eyes were on the affectionate duo. Sean couldn't tear his gaze away from statuesque Charlize in a stunning, yellow Dior gown.
When speculation of an engagement mounted, Charlize told Esquire, "The marriage thing is always so strange to me anyway . I love the possibility of anything, but I'm really enjoying myself and the everyday moment and how that coincides with my son and my life and my friends.”
Sean had reportedly filed papers to officially adopt Charlize’s son Jackson. "There’s a foundation of twenty years that the two of us have shared with each other in all these different ways that is really the foundation of something that has brought a lot of beautiful things into my life,” she said.
The two first saw rumours swirl around their blossoming relationship when they rang in the New Year together at the end of 2013 , but they then went public at the Million Ways To Die In The West premiere in May 2014.
