Holt Renfrew's revamped contemporary section on the flagship location's 3rd floor was a sartorial playground this week as the fashion pack convened to celebrate illustrator Donald Robertson's new children's book, Mitford at the Fashion Zoo. While serving as Estée Lauder's creative director, the stylish sketcher (Beyoncé's a fan!) has found time to corral a fanciful stable of characters, including protagonist Mitford - a giraffe on a fashion internship. While the windows of the Bloor Street icon introduced passers-by to Mitford and friends in a playful homage called 'Colt Renfrew,' the party's guests sipped champagne, posed with a giant stuffed Mitford and nibbled on childlike treats (think macaroni and cheese balls). Donald, with family members in tow, signed autographs and posed for photos. Oh what a zoo it was!
A late summer cool spell couldn’t keep Toronto’s best-dressed set from attending Greta Constantine’s sixth annual ‘La Piscine’ party at the Annex residence of Michael Cooper and Krystal Koo. The designing duo of Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong welcomed guests to the poolside oasis to help celebrate their Parisian debut for the fall/winter 2015 season and elicit excitement for their upcoming spring/summer 2016 offering. Actress Sarah Gadon, Ben Mulroney and his wife Jessica and more sipped on masterful blends of Apothic Wines and noshed on ‘City of Light’-inspired creations by Chef Christine Vynal while Opera Atelier’s Meghan Lindsay and dancer Elizabeth Kalashnikova performed excerpts from French Baroque masterpiece Armide. C'est magnifique!
A cloud of mystery surrounded the recent unveiling of Toronto’s newest nightspot, Candyland. As guests headed to an undisclosed location on the city’s trendy King West block, they had no idea that they were about to get a sneak peek at a new mature/experimental dinner theatre. Joe Mimran joined the likes of Amanda Brugel and Lost Girl’s Zoie Palmer at the exclusive affair, in raising an irresistibly potent cocktail to risqué performances by avant-garde aerialists, a drag performer and fire swallower with creative and potent cocktails. It was a night that those in attendance won’t soon forget!
This week, Shawn Hewson and wife Ruth Promislow - the minds behind Canadian fashion brand Bustle - opened the doors to their Cabbagetown residence for a backyard bash. BBQ was at the heart of Shawn's yearly birthday blowout, a pink smoker roasting up some crazy-good brisket at the laid-back affair - plus Peroni beer on hand to wash it down. And as guests like Tara Spencer-Nairnand Spoke Club’s Pierre Jutras chatted away around the outdoor fireplace, the birthday boy presented his party piece – a shotski – featuring a big ski adorned with shots, shots, shots, for everyone.
