They play very different characters on their hit television shows, but Sofia Vergara and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting have one very expensive thing in common – they share the crown for the highest-paid actresses on the small screen. According to Forbes, the leading ladies both pulled in approximately $28.5 million over the course of the past year.
Sofia has topped the monetary list for four years running thanks to her hilarious role on Modern Family and endorsement deals with Head and Shoulders and CoverGirl. Kaley, who has been inching her way up the ranks since landing the role of Penny on the Emmy-award winning comedy The Big Bang Theory, maximized on her contract with Priceline.com, which sees her playing Canadian actor William Shatner’s daughter in a series of memorable commercials.
Rounding out the top ten highest-paid women on television are: Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Patricia Heaton (The Middle).
Their male counterparts aren’t doing too poorly either. Kaley’s Big Bang co-stars Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki lead the pack after banking $29 million and $27 million, respectively, while the sitcom’s other main stars, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, earned $20 million each.
And with the inclusion of Modern Family’s Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill and Eric Stonestreet on the Forbes list of TV actors making the biggest bucks, it’s safe the say that the family comedy and The Big Bang Theory are serious money-making machines.
