Avril Lavigne delivered some cheerful news to her more than 20 million followers on social media this week when she announced that her latest trip to the doctor’s office featured a positive prognosis. “Overcoming Lyme disease. Feels good to have my Dr. smile and tell me how much progress I am making,” the star wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of herself receiving treatment. After battling the debilitating disease since October 2014, the Canadian singer has declared, “I’m coming out on the other side!”
Since being diagnosed with Lyme disease in April, the 31-year-old star has been a passionate advocate for research and funding to help fight the disease, even launching a special campaign through her eponymous foundation. In honour of her birthday on Sept. 27, Avril kicked off a five-week initiative to raise money to benefit children and young people suffering from the illness. Generous fans were entered into a draw to win a variety of prizes, including the chance to spend time with Avril and have a speaking role in the star’s upcoming animated movie, Charming.
With her health on the up and up, the singer is now concentrating on recording new music for her upcoming album. And even though she split from husband Chad Kroeger in September, the two musicians haven’t let their breakup affect their relationship in the studio. The Napanee native shared a picture from a jam session that she had with her former love in early October. “YeeHaw! Writing with Chad today,” she said.
