The Glee star briefly discussed her former on- and off-screen partner in a radio interview last week. Cory passed away in July 2013 from an accidental drug overdose.
"I really know that Cory would love [Matt]," she said in speaking with Fempire podcast hosts Becca Tobin, Keltie Knight and Jac Vanek. "[Matt] is very respectful toward the person that I was with, and that, again, is something I love so much about him."
Lea and Matt met while filming her music video "On My Way" in June 2014, a year after she took some time off from dating to cope with the loss of Cory. "I worked very, very, very hard and I got back to that place where I was genuinely happy and strong and ready to live again and see the world and, you know, bring in more beautiful experiences," she told Flare in October. "And that’s when [Matt] miraculously came into my life."
The 29-year-old singer now says her relationship is stronger than ever. "We’ve stood by each other through anything that was thrown our way. [Matt] is such a great man that he would never really let anything like that ever crack our lovely little core that we've created."
She also shrugged off critics who judge the life she shares with the 30-year-old dating coach. "They don't know my private life, so I understand that people are going to say whatever they are going to say [but] as long and he and I are good, my family’s good, my friends are good, that’s all that matters."
Lea can currently be seen in the television series Scream Queens alongside Emma Roberts.
