Taking inspiration from her latest role in Kung Fu Panda 3, Kate Hudson cozied up with a four-month-old panda cub during a recent press tour for the animated movie. The friendship blossomed when she visited China's Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. With the cuddly creature perched on her lap, the 36-year-old actress couldn't help but declare, "I'm in love," when she posted the adorable video on Instagram.
In her newest project (in theatres Jan. 29), Kate becomes a panda herself as she voices the character of Mei Mei. This is the first family-friendly film the mother of two has starred in and she celebrated the milestone with sons Ryder Robinson, 12, and Bingham Bellamy, 4, when the trio attended the movie's Los Angeles première together on Jan. 16.
Mei Mei is the first female panda lead in the film series and serves as a love interest for the Jack Black-voiced Po. The latest instalment follows Po's struggle to rally a village of clumsy pandas so that he can defeat his new nemesis, a supernatural warrior voiced by J.K. Simmons. Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu round out the stellar cast.
The character of Mei Mei was originally supposed to be voiced by Australian actress Rebel Wilson, but the Pitch Perfect 2 star had to leave the role after a change in production schedule, leaving the part of the crazy ribbon-dancing panda up for grabs.
