Showing incredible strength, Celine Dion attended Thursday's (Jan. 21) visitation for her late husband, René Angélil. With a black lace veil covering her face, the singer personally greeted members of the public wishing to share their condolences with the family. The couple's eldest child, René-Charles, also attended.
In the bracing cold weather, mourners lined up outside of Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica to pay their respects to the music mogul. Today's visitation precedes Friday's (Jan. 22) funeral service, where René's family and friends will say a final farewell to the beloved husband and father.
On Wednesday (Jan. 20), the "My Heart Will Go On" singer was seen putting on a brave face as she prepared to leave Las Vegas for Montreal. It will be a very difficult few days for the singer as she not only faces her husband's funeral, but also her brother's on Monday. Daniel Dion passed away on Jan. 17, only three days after René lost his battle with cancer. "Celine's heart is in pieces," a source close to the singer told People. "She's extremely heartbroken."
René never stopped protecting his beloved wife, right up until the end. In order to spare the singer the heartache of worrying about details following his passing, the music executive planned his own funeral. “He protected me," Celine told Hello! in a 2009 interview. "Over the years we fell in in love with each other, but he was always my protector and he still is."
Friday's funeral will begin at 3 p.m. A celebration of life service is planned for the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Feb. 3.
