Earlier this year, Celine Dion faced unimaginable heartache when her beloved husband René Angélil lost his hard-fought battle against cancer. Now, four months later the singer continues to be a beacon of strength for her family and three sons.
"I'm 48 years old and I lost the love of my life," the singer tells People in her first interview since her husband's death. "René always insisted the show must go on. I cannot be selfish. You have to let people go. I feel at peace."
The singer has stated that her main priority has and always will be her children, René Charles, 15, and five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. "I really, really want to prove to my kids their mother is strong," she tells People.
René succumbed to cancer in January after many challenging years. His wife was by his side every step of the way. "It's been a long, long journey," says Celine, adding, "We were living in hope, knowing that there's no hope." She admits that her late husband is helping her heal. "He left me with all of his strength. Every day we live with him, just not physically. I'm thankful that he does not suffer anymore."
René loved to see Celine perform, so that is what the Canadian star is preparing to do. After completing another batch of performances at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this month, the mother of three will jet off to Paris for nine sold-out shows at the AccorHotels Arena before returning home to delight fans in Montreal.
