Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had a fairytale start to their romance but it looks like 'happily ever after' isn't in the cards as the couple split after just 15 months of marriage. The 30-year-old actress filed for divorce from the film star at the Los Angeles Superior Court this week, citing irreconcilable differences. Amber listed the date of their separation as Sunday (May 22).
According to TMZ, Johnny, 52, has filed legal documents of his own asking the judge to reject Amber's claim for spousal support, as they married with no prenup in place. The star is said to be worth around $400 million.
The couple's shocking split comes shortly after the death of Johnny's mother. Betty Sue Palmer passed away on May 20 at the age of 81 following a long illness – and three days later Amber filed her divorce petition.
Johnny, meanwhile, is currently in the midst of promoting his new film Alice Through The Looking Glass, which is due to be released on Friday (May 27). He has been seen without his wedding ring while on the promotional circuit, and has reportedly hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has represented the likes of Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears and Ryan Reynolds in the past.
The last time that Johnny and Amber were seen together publicly was when they made an apology video for smuggling their dogs into Australia.
The couple, who met on the set of the 2012 movie Rum Diaries, were married on Johnny's private island Little Hall's Pond Cay in the Bahamas in February last year, in front of just 24 guests. It is thought that they were legally married in LA a short time before so that his ailing mother could attend.
Johnny was previously married toLori Anne Allison for two years. He was later in a long-term partnership with Vanessa Paradis that lasted 14 years before they split in 2012. They have two children together, Lily-Rose and Jack.
